Mesh tarp vs Poly Tarp
Mesh tarps and poly tarps are both commonly used tarps. A mesh tarp is made of polypropylene and has perforations that allow air and water to pass through, while providing shade and blocking dirt and debris. A poly tarp is made of nylon or polyester coated with polyethylene.
A mesh tarp is lighter in weight compared to a poly tarp and more likely to withstand strong winds because some wind passes through, reducing the strength of wind. However a poly tarp is a much better hurricane tarp compared to a mesh tarp, as it is waterproof. It is much better for protecting materials from rain and water. However in case of materials that need breathable covers which allow moisture to escape, mesh tarps are a better choice.
Poly tarps and mesh tarps both have a variety of applications. Poly tarps are useful to cover the floor in outdoor camps, to protect the floor from paint spills when painting, and to completely cover and protect materials, furniture and vehicles from the weather. A poly tarp is more affordable than a mesh tarp and more commonly available.
Mesh tarps are useful in situations where light, rain or breeze needs to pass through such as in plant nurseries, and outdoor canopies or rest areas. A mesh tarp is especially useful as an outdoor canopy cover because it provides shade and protection from sun’s UV rays while letting sunlight and breeze through.
