Facebook and their 10 billion photo’s
Facebook’s 10 billion photo’s..eek !
I don’t think the human brain can quite comprehend the figure 10 billion. Well most people’s that is.
The guy that does have to though is Facebook’s software engineer Doug Beaver, yesterday he posted a note on Facebook, highlighting they now have 10 billion photo’s uploaded.
If thats not a crazy figure in itself then you may also like to know, they also keep four different sizes of each photo ! Yikes !
So it total they actually have over 4 billion photo’s and counting by the second…which in fact leads us onto some rather interesting facts, posted by Doug himself.
From Facebook -
- 2-3 Terabytes of photos are being uploaded to the site every day
- We have just over one petabyte of photo storage
- We serve over 15 billion photo images per day
- Photo traffic now peaks at over 300,000 images served per second

Should Fickr, Photobucket and the rest worry…I would.
