Using a Portable AC Unit for Server Room Cooling

A portable ac unit is a relatively small air conditioner that can be moved from one location to another by way of wheels on its bottom. It is commonly used to cool server rooms, which is important so as to prevent overheating and subsequent malfunction of computer servers located within. Portable air conditioners can either be bought or rented.

Are you thinking about buying a portable ac for your server room? Below are several things to consider:

Space and installation time
Space is often limited in a server room, so the best server room ac unit may be the one that takes up little space while offering adequate cooling. A portable air conditioner is useful in server room cooling because it takes up less space and can be moved where most necessary. A portable ac unit also needs no costly installation, which results in time and cost savings.
At the same time window based air conditioners are generally unfeasible in server rooms as they require a window, which server rooms generally omit to prevent weather damage and security breaches.

Flexibility
Portable air conditioners offer spot cooling, so they can be used to cool the cabinets that need cooling most or especially hot areas. They can also be moved easily in the case of hardware locations changing.

Energy costs
Energy costs are a substantial expense for businesses maintaining server rooms. Server rooms incur a lot of electrical energy costs, as servers both need to be powered using energy and then cooled using energy. Therefore usage of portable air conditioners that are more energy efficient compared to conventional, larger air conditioners is a good choice because it lowers the energy costs of server room cooling.

Mesh tarp vs Poly Tarp

Mesh tarps and poly tarps are both commonly used tarps. A mesh tarp is made of polypropylene and has perforations that allow air and water to pass through, while providing shade and blocking dirt and debris. A poly tarp is made of nylon or polyester coated with polyethylene.

A mesh tarp is lighter in weight compared to a poly tarp and more likely to withstand strong winds because some wind passes through, reducing the strength of wind. However a poly tarp is a much better hurricane tarp compared to a mesh tarp, as it is waterproof. It is much better for protecting materials from rain and water. However in case of materials that need breathable covers which allow moisture to escape, mesh tarps are a better choice.

Poly tarps and mesh tarps both have a variety of applications. Poly tarps are useful to cover the floor in outdoor camps, to protect the floor from paint spills when painting, and to completely cover and protect materials, furniture and vehicles from the weather. A poly tarp is more affordable than a mesh tarp and more commonly available.
Mesh tarps are useful in situations where light, rain or breeze needs to pass through such as in plant nurseries, and outdoor canopies or rest areas. A mesh tarp is especially useful as an outdoor canopy cover because it provides shade and protection from sun’s UV rays while letting sunlight and breeze through.

Computer Overheating-Causes and Solutions

Computer components such as processors and graphics cards generate lots of heat during their operation. If this heat is not dissipated properly, the PC will overheat resulting in shorter hardware life and also frequent PC crashes, freezes and system errors. Computers are generally cooled by fans such as those in the power supply and on processors and video cards. But sometimes due to various reasons, the airflow and cooling is impeded and heat generated in the PC isn’t dissipated quickly and properly leading to the rapid overheating of computer hardware.

One cause of overheating is the improper functioning of computer fans. Older fans may wear out or accumulate dust causing them to stop working or slow down. Replacing the fan or cleaning it of dust and applying grease will help. You may also get additional fans installed to keep overheating in check. Overheating can also be reduced by buying a newer spacier computer cabinet for better air circulation, keeping the PC’s interior dust free and keeping the PC in a cool room, such as in a room with an air conditioner. Lastly, connecting cables within a PC are often in a tangled mess that impedes airflow and causes overheating. Arranging them in an orderly manner will improve PC cooling.

Online collaboration-A new way of working together

Collaboration between business teams is of great importance to a business. Whether for the development of a product, design, or for achieving any other goal, efficient team collaboration allows for the timely planning and execution of business projects. Through online collaboration, team members may exchange and generate ideas and information, review each other’s work and provide mutual feedback. This helps better the standards of work and the performance of a business while reducing the occurrence of expensive and time consuming errors. It is therefore in a company’s best interest to facilitate team collaboration to the utmost.

In the past, team collaboration was achieved through face-to-face meetings and brainstorming sessions where everyone in a business team had to be present at the same location. But in today’s global economy, companies often have personnel at numerous different locations. This often makes face-to-face team meetings impractical or costly. Therefore businesses have turned to online collaboration as a solution. Online collaboration can involve the use of an extranet to facilitate collaboration between employees of the same company or even those belonging to different companies.

There are many benefits to online collaboration. The primary benefit is that people at different locations and time zones can work together. People won’t have to travel to attend meetings and can collaborate with team members from wherever they are. Team collaboration is made possible without requiring that every team member be present in the same location. Online collaboration helps businesses save time and money, complete projects faster and generate higher profits.

The Power of Ideas in Business

Capital isn’t that important in business. Experience isn’t that important. You can get both of these things. What is important is ideas.
Harvey S. Firestone, American businessman

Ideas are very important in business. In fact, it can be said that business success is largely a measure of how many good ideas are generated, and how many of those are actually put into action in the conduct of the business. Ideas help in business improvement and a business person is not merely one who understands the value of money, but also the value of good ideas. In business however, there is a cost to implement or test ideas. Hence it makes sense to choose only the good ideas and avoid the bad ones. Innovative ideas can help achieve business objectives and even exceed them while bad ideas, when implemented may result in loss of money and time as well as failure to achieve business success.

So what then are ways to generate good business ideas? One way is to encourage collaboration within the business. Collective brainstorming sessions, team building activities and the like with the participation of employees can foster co-operation and increase the generation of ideas within an organization. As a business owner, you may network with other like minded business people to share business ideas and information. You may also obtain guidance from a mentor or business coach. These professionals are very experienced in the generation and evaluation of original business ideas and can set your business on path to maximum business improvement in no time. An experienced business coach can give you valuable business ideas and advice, and provide a support network to enable you to take sound decisions, generate great ideas that result in business improvement and expansion, and make excellent business plans to meet and exceed your business objectives.

Your business success hinges upon quality ideas that are put into action in a timely manner. For business improvement and personal prosperity of the business owner, there is no better recipe than a steady source of valuable practical business ideas.

2009 and monetization of the big sites

After Scorpiono put a post up about selling websites with little or no revenue it made me think, just how long can the likes of Twitter and Facebook hold out before they start making real profits ?

I mean this year is going to be fairly hard for any company, pretty much on daily basis we are hearing of companies going bust, so now more then ever it is vital that the big names of the 2.0 world start making some serious money or at least just enough to repay the VC’s back ;-).

Jokes aside, it will be interesting to watch how Facebook and Twitter do this, business is business and if your not making the dollar, bad things will happen. lol.

Perhaps Facebook will simply squeeze a cpm banner in their header lol or maybe twitter will have a donate paypal button lol.

Who knows !

The online home of Hip Hop - YouBeats.com

A new music community on the rise, seems to be YouBeats, YouBeats is specifically targeted at Hip Hop music and fans alike and in their own words they are ‘The Hip Hop Music Community’.

The site is nicely categorized, for example I can find Top artists by plays, Featured artists and an interesting category that caught my eye was ‘BATTLE FORUM TOP USERS’. - Not 100% sure what that is, but hey.

The forum seems to worth checking out, for a new site they are quite busy, there is also a feature that lets you upload your own videos for the other YouBeats users to admire !

A tailored social network - Twine.com

A new social network has just been released to the public, Twine provides a way for you to collect bookmarks notes and videos from around the web and share this on your network.
